Abstract

Trade-off between DC link voltage dynamics and AC-side current quality in grid-interfacing power converters limits the attainable DC link voltage loop bandwidth for a given desired value of grid-side current total harmonic distortion (THD). It was recently shown that adding a notch filter in series with the typically employed DC link voltage controller of PI or type-II structure releases the above trade-off, yet requires full controller re-design. The paper proposes to replace the notch filter by a plug-in disturbance observer, allowing to increase attainable DC link voltage loop bandwidth for given grid-side current THD without any modification of the existing DC link voltage controller by utilizing a special frequency-selective filter. Simulations and experimental results validate the proposed design methodology.
