Abstract

Different silver (Ag) island films were formed by annealing Ag films that were deposited on SiO2/Si substrates for different durations. Enhanced fluorescence of Eu(TTFA)3-doped SU8 films was demonstrated by these island Ag films. The enhancement was much greater than that by the unannealed Ag films and varied with these island films. The relative changes of the radiative and nonradiative transition rates of europium ions were also deduced in presence of 23nm annealed Ag films; the former one could increase to 1.625, the latter one could decrease to 0.505, and the quantum efficiency was enhanced to 1.376.
