Abstract

AbstractThe propagation of plasma excitations in a layered electron gas with random inhomogeneities of the conductivity of the separate layers is investigated. An expression is obtained for the effective dielectric permittivity of the given system at weak fluctuations of the equilibrium carrier concentration. The mechanism is studied of plasma wave damping associated with the energy transformation of the mean field into chaotic self‐oscillations of the system. Decrements of the mean field damping both in the centre and on the boundary of the Brillouin zone are calculated. A strong dependence of the damping character on the degree of fluctuation correlation between different layers is found.
