Abstract

It is shown that nanostructured dielectric materials with a refractive index gradient can be designed to exhibit a plasma-like response. In particular, we suggest that gradient index gyrotropic materials can be controlled in real time using a magnetic field gradient. Such structures may open up new ways to create composite photonic materials for use in the THz and infrared regions.
