Abstract

Phaeochromocytoma is a rare cause of hypertension during pregnancy but should be considered in pregnant women presenting with extremely elevated blood pressure. Plasma free metanephrines (PFM) can be readily measured using liquid chromatography-MS/MS and have been shown to have good diagnostic performance for the diagnosis of phaeochromocytoma.1 Interpretation of PFM Results in pregnant women is hindered by the lack of population specific reference intervals. The objective of this study was to establish PFM reference intervals for pregnant women without phaeochromocytoma.
