Abstract

SummaryRats were fed diets containing excess sodium chloride and examined for changes in water and electrolyte contents. Blood pressure elevation did not occur even after 56 weeks, but body weight varied inversely with the quantity of sodium chloride in the diet. Significant water and electrolyte changes were an increase in sodium, potassium and chloride and a decrease in water content of aorta.
