Abstract

The International Board of Atomic Energy (Comision Nacional de Energia Atomica – CNEA) was created in 1950. In this way a scientific community was established in it. After its participation in The First International Conference “Atoms for Peace” which was held in Geneva in 1955, this scientific community was acknowledged by its peers all over the world. Our aim is to analyze the scientific- technological development achieved by those scientists in the CNEA in its early stages. This investigation has developed conventional written resources, compiled bibliography and has interviewed some nuclear scientists who worked in that period, to achieve a better understanding of the social actors´ practice and about the relation between the historical context and the institution.
