Abstract
Summary The commercial exploitation of plant cell, tissue and organ cultures is now a reality and the new technologies are already in place and developing rapidly. Their emergence has provided new perspectives and sharpened the focus of the ways in which plant cell and tissue culture can aid man. Together with the exciting new developments in plant molecular biology, these in vitro procedures should allow plant bio technologists to ‘design’ plants and plant products and exploit the full commercial potential of plant cell cultures.
