Abstract

With the rapid development of Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) in urban areas, many residential communities are under construction near or around the main stations of the MRT. These residential communities are referred to as a Transit Oriented Development (TOD) community. The parking demand and space planning in a TOD community is different from a traditional community due to the different land use principals and models. Analyzing the main factors which influence the parking demand of TOD communities, combined with a land use model in TOD communities, a forecast model of shared parking for parking demand is proposed to a TOD community in an urban area. Based on this model, a method is presented to calculate parking lots in a TOD district. Finally, a sample is used to identify this model and calculate the method in a TOD planning project.
