Abstract
We consider a planar undulator with an alternating profile of rectangular grooved poles. Such a design allows the attainment of undulator periods of the order of 0.1 cm. We show that undulator radiation can be effectively generated in such a magnetic structure. Spectral radiation characteristic of an undulator with a variable pole profile have been calculated, and its optimal geometry has been found. The characteristics obtained are compared with those of conventional undulator designs.
