Abstract

A planar leaky-wave antenna (LWA) designed with a linear array of composite-right-left-handed-like cell structures is proposed in this letter. The antenna produces almost omnidirectional radiation in the azimuthal plane with a narrow beam in the elevation plane, a disc-shape beam that can be spatially swept with frequency; moreover, its operating bandwidth is wide, and the main lobe scanning is smooth, in contrast with most of the reported LWA's. The cell equivalent-circuit model is presented, and the antenna simulated and measured responses are provided. © 2016 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 58:114–118, 2016
