Abstract

SUMMARY Two models are proposed for the analysis of binary data in a two-factor balanced nested design. The random-effects factor is nested within the fixed-effects factor. The first model is based on the betabinomial distribution and the second is a random-effects version of the standard model in probit analysis. The estimation and test procedure is derived by maximizing likelihoods. These models are illustrated by an example.
