Abstract

Plans for reference service are dependent on knowledge of past demand and activity and on a staff training to meet the expected demand. Staff training is necessary whether or not individual staff members hold an academic degree in library or information science. Statistical measurements are inlegal to the review of past activity and lay the ground work of any plan. The need for a commonly accepted goal of the library is necessary to the successful completion of any service plan.
