Abstract

The placers are classified into three types: (1) fossil, (2) reworked fossil, and (3) modern. The modern placers contain magnetite, ilmenite, garnet, diopside, vermiculite, and serpentine; the fossil and reworked fossil placers contain little or no magnetite, limonite nodules, ilmenite, garnet and diopside, but no vermiculite or serpentine. The modern and reworked fossil placers are postglacial in age; the fossil placers are preglacial. The X-ray powder camera was used in the identification of the mineral grains. Trans. Kans. Acad.
