Abstract

Utilization of potential renewable energy sources is maximized to produce electrical power. The goal is to increase the supply of electrical power for the load without having to add new fossil fuel power plants, and to maintain energy security. Renewable energy types such as photovoltaic and wind power plants are often used for distributed generation. The placement of renewable energy has been tried in several distribution network topologies. The integration of renewable energy in large quantities with the distribution network can cause a decrease in power quality. This paper aims to improve power quality in distribution networks that have a ring topology and lots of renewable energy. Improved power quality using harmonic filters and detuned reactors. Several conditions were made to obtain the results of the impact comparison using a harmonic filter and a detuned reactor. Condition 1, simulation of harmonics on a ring topology distribution network that is integrated with a lot of renewable energy. Condition 2, the distribution network is installed with a harmonic filter to reduce harmonic distortion from the previous scenario. Condition 3, the harmonic filter is combined with a detuned reactor in the distribution network to reduce harmonic distortion. In condition 1 the value of harmonic distortion is high. The THD-I value is 15.52% and the THD-V value is 7.07%. After comparing all the results of harmonic distortion in each condition, condition 3 gives the smallest harmonic distortion compared to other conditions. In condition 3, the THD-I value is 2.83% and the THD-V value is 2.01%.
