Abstract
SrMgSi2O6:Gd3+ phosphor was prepared by sol-gel method and characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL) and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. XRD pattern revealed the tetragonal phase of the synthesized sample. The PL of SrMgSi2O6:Gd3+ phosphors exhibited a characteristic emission peak at 313 nm associated with 6P7/2→8S7/2 transition of Gd3+ ions corresponding to the UVB region. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectrum of SrMgSi2O6:Gd3+ phosphor provided the g-values along with understanding of the environment around Gd3+ ions in the host.
