Abstract

The aim of this paper is to recount the history of the first Fish Farming Station at the University of São Paulo (USP), Pirassununga Campus, an important instrument for consolidating aquaculture at the institution and for training specialized professionals, many of whom currently work in public and in the private sectors. The station was conceived during the administration of the Centre for Zootechnics and Livestock Industries Fernando Costa-Cizip, beginning the construction at the end of 1992, using the structure of the newly created of Pirassununga’s Campus, and was completed the following year, with the inauguration scheduled for August 1993, by the then rector of University of São Paulo. However, the Rector resigned his post eve of the inauguration, so the station was never formally inaugurated and its history was lost in the time.
