Abstract

This chapter explains piping fabrications and assembly as well as required tolerances. Except for flange connection, welding is known as one of the main important ways to connect the piping, so the focus of this part is more on this subject. The chapter also explains welding process or techniques, welding codes, welding positions, welding electrode and rod materials, and welding documents such as welding procedure specification and procedure qualification record. It discusses welding defects and their causes and mitigation approaches. An extension of welding inspection according to different fluid services and pressure with reference to ASME B31.3, process piping code and Norsok M-601, is included. The chapter further explains different non-destructive tests for the inspection of welding like radiography and ultrasonic. It is finalized with the hydrostatic and pneumatic pressure test in the field after piping fabrication.
