Abstract
Those pioneers who consolidated their career in sculpture during the 2nd Republic make up a new model of woman who is actively incorporated into artistic environments. Although they could access the official academic apprenticeship, they received lessons from the most illustrious sculptors of the moment. All these sculptors had family ties with prominent intellectuals or artists, remaining in the shadow of their parents or husbands, in a secondary role. They suffered criticism for entering sculpture, a field not suitable for them. But a deep vocation and a demonstrated talent made them overcome the impediments and dedicate themselves to the modeling of their works. These women left an inheritance, they are a reference for the first generation of professional sculptors in our country that will emerge a few decades later. Revealing their names and rescuing their works gives us the opportunity to recover the memory of these women and assess their work with perspective.
