Abstract

Superficial acral fibromyxoma is a rare benign soft tissue tumour affecting the distal parts of digits, particularly the periungual region of the finger. We present the case of a 78-year-old man with an extensive subungual tumour on the medial nail fold of the second toe on the left side. The tumour had been present for approximately a year and had gradually increased in size. Radiological examination revealed bone erosion and osteolysis of the distal phalanx. Based on the clinical findings, surgical amputation of the second toe at the distal interphalangeal junction was performed. Histological examination combined with immunohistochemistry confirmed that the lesion was a superficial acral fibromyxoma. In this clinicopathological case, we discuss the pathological features, the differential diagnosis and treatment options.
