Abstract
In this paper, pilot symbol assisted channel estimation in Digital Video Broadcasting Terrestrial (DVB-T) based orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system by linear interpolation is investigated. Channel estimation is a severe problem in the system and has various estimation techniques with particular pilot arrangements. The simple estimator at pilot frequencies is Least-Square (LS) scheme, which has low computation complexity. However, it suffers from the Mean Square Error (MSE). Pilot based channel estimator usually addresses the scattered and continual pilot arrangement for the DVB-T system. The pilot arrangement in this paper differs from the previous to reduce pilot symbols. The time domain channel estimator is developed by applying LS estimation for the pilot symbol in the time domain. The proposed channel estimation scheme provides better performance than a conventional scheme. The estimator’s performance through a Rayleigh-fading channel is evaluated by bit error rate (BER) and MSE.
