Abstract

Summary The sesquiterpenoidal phytoalexins and structural related phytoalexin-like compounds formed in cultivated potato tubers after infection are reviewed. The chemical structures as well as the biosynthetic pathways and conversion are discussed. The microorganisms inducing phytoalexin formation in potato tissue and the antimicrobial activity of the isolated phytoalexins are presented.
