Abstract

Summary Determination of phytin decomposers in soil and. rhizosphere of both wheat and broad bean at different stages of growth was studied. It was found that nun hers of phytin decolnposers in rhizosphere soil were generally higher than those in non rhizosphere soil of wheat and broad bean at different stages of growth. The stimulatory effect of the rhizosphere on this group was high, as indicated by the B/S ratios. The maximum density of phytin hydrolyzers in wheat and broad bean rhizosphere was observed at flowering and seed formation stages. It is, therefore, suggested that these organisms play an important role in supplying plants with available phosphorus, since these periods coincided with maximum P uptake.
