Abstract
Ethrel (3 ppm) and ultraviolet irradiation (UV), alone and in combination with dark or visible, were applied to seeds of dwarf pea ( Pisum sativum , var. «Little Marvel») to determine their effect on peroxidase activity. Ethrel treatment depressed peroxidase levels in root tip and distal root tissues of dark-grown seedlings (20 days); however, Ethrel enhanced peroxidase activity in proximal stem and leaf tissues of dark-grown seedlings: Ethrel plus visible light only enhanced peroxidase activity in leaf tissue. Ethrel plus visible light enhanced peroxidase activity in both root tip and distal root tissues but proximal stem and leaf tissues had depressed peroxidase activity.
