Abstract
Physical therapy research in the United States is at a crossroads. Opportunities are at an all time high; interest is keen. Faculty shortages, the dearth of a research culture and defensiveness in response to attacks on practice, however, provide powerful impediments to progress in research in physical therapy. Responsibilities and strategies for taking advantage of the opportunities and reducing the impediments are offered in an effort to meet the challenges we face in physical therapy research.
