Abstract
The 14 papers contained within this volume are the product of a two-day workshop held at TU Bergakademie Freiberg in 2002 on the physical geology of subvolcanic systems. The recognition of subvolcanic sill complexes and an understanding of their emplacement histories are of critical importance to economic geologists with an interest in a wide variety of magmatic-hydrothermal ore deposits. Many of the papers in the volume describe the geologic setting, physical attributes, and emplacement histories of high-level sill and dike complexes within a number of European late Paleozoic sedimentary basins. These basins formed in a number of tectonic settings ranging from continental foreland extension during late orogenesis through to oceanic back-arc extension and magmatism. Two exceptions are papers describing Neogene to Recent magmatism and caldera formation in the anorogenic oceanic …
