Abstract

A pigeonpea variety (Phule Tur 12) is developed by pedigree selection method from a cross ICP-332 x BSMR-736 at Pulses Improvement Project, Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri (MS). It has semi-spreading, indeterminate growth habit, bold seed size, moderately resistant to wilt, sterility mosaic and tolerant to pod borer, pod fly, root knot and cyst nematode, better response to inputs and perform well under rainfed condition. In All India coordinated trials during 2008-09 to 2011-12 on an average, this genotype PT-12 yielded 1552 kg ha-1 and recorded 33.10, 55.35 and 38.94 per cent higher seed yield over national checks UPAS-120 (1166 kg ha-1), ICPL-87 (999 kg ha-1) and GT-101 (1117 kg ha-1) respectively. In regional and State multilocation trials, during 2007-08 to 2010-11, this variety PT-12 performed exceedingly well by producing consistently higher average grain yield of 2307 kg ha-1 than the checks with 43.20 per cent higher yield and early maturity. Hence this entry identified as high yielding variety for central zone by Central Variety Identification Committee during Annual Group Meet on Pigeonpea, held at UAS, Bangalore, during 13-15th May, 2012.
