Abstract
Photoresponsive synthetic polymer is a specialty polymer having photoreceptor chromophores, which can transfer light energy into a change in conformation of the polymer chain. The light energy is once stored in a chemical structure change of the chromophore and then transfered into the polymer chain, causing reversible conformational changes as shown below, The conformational change should produce a concomitant change in physical and chemical properties of the polymer solutions and solids. This is a basic idea for controlling properties of polymers by photoirradiation using the photoresponsive polymers.
