Abstract

The introduction of photon-counting detector computed tomography (PCD-CT) heralds anew generation of cardiac imaging. This review discusses the current scientific literature to determine the incremental value of PCD-CT in cardiac imaging. Discussion of currently available literature regarding cardiac PCD-CT from aradiological perspective. Since its market introduction in 2021, numerous studies have explored the advantages of this new technology in the field of cardiac imaging, including improved image quality through superior spatial resolution, ahigher contrast-to-noise ratio, reduced artifacts, and lower radiation dose. While preliminary studies have been promising, it remains to be seen how the advantages of PCD-CT will affect clinical guidelines for cardiac CT.
