Abstract
We derived a general integral expression for the carrier radiative recombination rate in solar cells. The photon Boltzmann equation is solved taking into account the photon recycling effect inside the cell and assuming arbitrary spatial variation of the absorption coefficient. This expression can thus be used for graded bandgap solar cells. Copyright © 2006 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.
