Abstract

In order to determine boron in the borides of refractory metals as well as in ores, minerals, and steels containing more than 0.2% of this element, a classical volumetric method of titration with a solution of caustic soda in the presence of glycerin or mannitol is often employed [1,2,6]. For determining boron in quantities of under 0.05% colorimetric methods are used; these incorporate quinalizarin, carminic acid, arsenazo I, and so on, the reaction with boron taking place in concentrated sulfuric acid [1,4,7].
