Abstract
The single phase of Gd0.95Eu0.05Ba3B9O18 and Gd0.95Tb0.05Ba3B9O18 was prepared by the solid-state reaction. Their photoluminescence properties were investigated under ultraviolet and vacuum ultraviolet excitation. The results indicated that the charge transfer excitation band of Eu3+ and 4f8→4f75d1 transitions of Tb3+ dominated the excitation spectra of Gd0.95Eu0.05Ba3B9O18 and Gd0.95Tb0.05Ba3B9O18 in ultraviolet region, respectively. The broad band of the host lattice absorption with maximum at about 165nm was observed in vacuum ultraviolet region, which could consist of the absorptions of BO3 groups and Ba–O groups. Under 254 and 147nm excitation, Gd0.95Eu0.05Ba3B9O18 and Gd0.95Tb0.05Ba3B9O18 showed red and green emission peaking at about 592 and 541nm, respectively.
