Abstract

Electron Spin Resonance investigations allow to attribute a broad absorption band below the band‐to‐band transition of ZnO:Co to photoionization transitions of Co‐ions. This absorption, with the onset at about 2.4–2.6 eV, is due to cobalt recharging, as concluded from the photo‐ESR and pulsed ESR experiments. In these experiments light sensitive ESR signals of Co2+ and shallow donor are observed. Their response to light favors cobalt 2+ to 3+ photoionization.
