Abstract

The cross section of neutral sodium has been calculated from threshold at 5.14 eV to 250 eV with use of many-body perturbation theory. The calculations use LS coupling and include resonance effects due to single excitations of 2p and 2s electrons. Near threshold the results are very sensitive to electron correlations. Our results are compared with previous theoretical calculations and experimental measurements.
