Abstract

The proposed mechanism of the photoinduced reaction of the PtCl 6 2− ion with an arene in acetic or aqueous trifluoroacetic acid, completed by the formation of a platinum (IV) σ-aryl complex, includes a stage of electron transfer from the arene to platinum(IV) and the formation of an ion radical pair which is then transformed into a Wheland complex.
