Abstract

Photo-induced phase transition is observed in poly(3-eicosyl)thiophenes containing head-to-tail couplings of alkyl sidegroups. Threshold and saturation in conversion efficiency of phase transition are found against variations of exciting photon density or photon energy. Observed behaviors indicate that the photo-induced phase transition is considered to be mediated by photogenerated electron-hole pairs which develop into clusters with local changes in bond structures on polymer backbone and sidegroups.
