Abstract

The profession of photographer, subject to rapid and seemingly unending technological and economic changes, remains relatively unknown. This paper attempts to summarise the available information pertaining to this composite profession, which is both unstable and relatively underresearched. It also suggests areas for further research. Different photographic spheres will be examined and compared to other cultural or artistic practices. The angles chosen will be : career entry points and training options, the impact of digital technologies and the competition from non-professionals.
