Abstract

The necessity and importance of having an “impartial” scientific survey at hand for those who work in the field of the protection and conservation of cultural property is strongly recommended. In particular this is illustrated by the activities of the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and the Restoration of Cultural Property. Created by UNESCO in 1959, the Centre organizes annually, in collaboration with the Faculty of Architecture of Rome University, a course dedicated to the study and restoration of monuments for specialists from all member states. One of the arguments covered by the programme of this course is, in fact, that which concerns the role photogrammetry plays in the field of conservation; lectures given by experts together with seminars and practical work.
