Abstract
This paper presents a review of a series of many years of investigations of photostimulated phenomena and processes in systems of atoms interacting with the surface of solids. Original results are presented of investigations of the photodesorption and photostimulated diffusion of alkali metal atoms on the surface of broad-band insulators, constituting processes whereby the electronic excitation energy of the atoms is converted into their motion and mass transfer, initiated by the indicated conversion.
