Abstract

We review the photoemission literature relating to studies of the valence band region of the BiSrCaCuO (BiSCCO) family of high temperature superconductors. Through studies of the copper satellite and the low binding energy features, a picture has emerged of strongly correlated properties mixed with delocalized, band-like ones. We discuss the different aspects of this dual nature, as well as the superconducting properties as seen in photoemission results. In addition, we survey the experimental details of BiSCCO studies and discuss methods to ensure consistent, repeatable results.
