Abstract

The photoemission electron microscope and the different types of specimen stages available are briefly described. The results of high-temperature straining experiments on two superplastic alloys, aluminum alloy 7475 and titanium alloy Ti-6% Al-4% V, are presented and compared with previous in situ experiments in the scanning electron microscope. The present results corroborate previous observations and also suggest that, in two-phase alloys, the softer phase deforms at higher strain rates than the harder phase.
