Abstract

Abstract Photodesorption means a quantum effect whereby a single photon, through a single or multistep process, causes the desorption of an atom or molecule from a solid surface. This article presents a critical review of the literature in the field of photodesorption; material is covered through mid 1977. Although it is impossible to include every paper ever published which is in some way related to photodesorption, the authors feel that the material covered is sufficiently complete to permit reasonable conclusions to be reached.
