Abstract
Laser dye RB doped organically modified SiO 2 gel glasses were prepared through sol–gel route. The photochemical mechanism of the dye under laser irradiation was proposed with UV, IR and fluorescence spectra measurement. The results declare two ways the laser dye photo-degradation may follow: bond breaking of organic modifiers under laser irradiation with high energy, turns polymers into small organic molecules (alkyl groups); Furthermore, functional groups of laser dyes are broken under high-energy irradiation, resulting in the non-fluorescent substance.
