Abstract
As photodiodes are more frequently being used in the vacuum ultraviolet and X-ray spectral region, there is more interest in the photocathode efficiency, stability, speed of response and in the techniques of absolute efficiency calibrations. These properties are reviewed and special problems such as saturation effects and detection of polarized radiation are discussed.
