Abstract
The polypeptides of intact adenovirus type 2 can be phosphorylated by an ATP: protein phosphotransferase (protein kinase II) from rabbit red-blood cells. Adenovirus type 12 and bacteriophage λ can also be phosphorylated; bacteriophage T4 and tobacco mosaic virus do not accept phosphate. A protein kinase has been partially purified from extracts of uninfected KB cells and is also present in KB cells infected with adenovirus type 2.
