Abstract

Intact lutoids were isolated from the latex of Hevea brasiliensis and purified on a sucrose density gradient. Lutoid membranes prepared by osmotic lysis are characterized by a high content of phosphatidic acid in which unsaturated and saturated fatty acids are present in equal proportions. Linolenic acid is absent. The results are discussed in relation to the biological role of lutoids in the latex vessels of Hevea brasiliensis.
