Abstract
ABSTRACT Phosphate pebbles in the Brightseat Formation of Maryland are composed chiefly of cryptocrystalline apatite (collophane). The pebbles originally were composed largely of calcite which subsequently was partially replaced by collophane. Compositional differences between the pebbles and the sediments in which they occur suggest that the pebbles are allochthonous.
