Abstract

Certain features of intracellular inorganic ion metabolism must be considered in any discussion of extracellular phosphate metabolism. This report will present our concepts in three areas: the potassium and phosphate shifts related to glucose uptake and insulin stimulation, the osmotic effects of energy metabolism, and some changes in cerebral intracellular ions caused by various hyperosmolar states.
