Abstract

The phonon spectrum of the p(3 × 1)O-Ag(110) surface along the <1 1 0> direction is studied by inelastic He-beam scattering with time-of-flight detection. The Rayleigh mode and three surface vibrational resonances are described over most of the surface Brillouin zone. The lower energy resonances show the well known avoided crossing behavior with a small gap (~0.5 meV) in between. The 8 meV resonance presents nearly no dispersion on the detectability region. At \\ ̄ gG, both optical modes match the modes previously measured along <001>.
