Abstract
Phonon softening in the Heusler alloy Ni2MnGa crystal wasinvestigated by neutron spectroscopy for a crystal where the martensitic phasetransformation temperature is close to the Curie temperature. The main resultis a softening of the TA2-phonon branch (ξ ξ 0) of the cubicphase in a broad range between ξ = 0.1 and 0.4 when the temperatureapproaches the phase transformation. The behaviour of the present sample iscompared with results for samples with lower transition temperature.
